Ng Beng Tiong
Ng Beng Tiong

Chairman​

Mr Ng Beng Tiong is Deputy Group CEO and Group COO of ARA Asset Management Limited. He oversees the performance of the Group’s business units globally, and is responsible for the integration of and coordination among the various divisions in the Group. Mr Ng concurrently holds the position of Executive Chairman of APM Group, and oversees the property management and MICE management business. In addition, he has oversight of the Group Corporate Division which includes corporate services, technology, analytics, governance and sustainability.

Mr Ng is a member of the ARA Group Business Development Committee which drives and coordinates all new business and product initiatives, a member of the ARA Group Investment Review Committee which oversees its global investment strategy, and Deputy Chairman of the ARA Group Digital Strategy Committee which is responsible for leading the transformation of ARA into a smart enterprise and growth into the digital marketplace. He is a member of the Investment Committee and Executive Committee of the ARA Private Funds (APAC Real Estate) division. Mr Ng is also a board member of the Group’s Infrastructure Division and ARA Private Funds (Logistics Real Estate) Division.

Prior to his appointment as Group COO, Mr Ng was CEO of ARA Private Funds from 2007 to 2019, during which he grew ARA’s private real estate funds business to become a leading fund manager in Asia Pacific. Prior to joining the ARA Group in 2007, Mr Ng was the Finance Director of Low Keng Huat (Singapore) Ltd, a property, construction and hotel group listed on the SGX-ST, from 2003 to 2007. He was a Director of Stone Forest M&A Pte. Ltd., a mergers and acquisitions advisory company from 2002 to 2003 and Director of Corporate Planning and Business Development at Labroy Marine Limited, a shipping, shipbuilding and marine engineering company listed on the SGX-ST from 1997 to 2002. Mr Ng began his career with DBS Bank Ltd in 1989, initially as a corporate banker and subsequently as an investment banker.

Mr Ng holds a Master of Engineering (Software Engineering) (First Class Honours) from Imperial College, London. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the Singapore Institute of Directors.

Vice Chairman

A banking veteran, Cheng Teck was the Vice-Chairman of ASEAN, Standard Chartered Bank before retiring in May 2017.

He has more than 30 years of international banking experience and has held various roles within Standard Chartered, including Regional Chief Executive of ASEAN, Chief Executive of Singapore, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited.

Cheng Teck currently serves on the advisory board of Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics (Singapore Management University), on the board of Special Needs Trust Company Limited (SNTC) and is presently Chairman of Bright Vision Hospital. He has an MBA from Brunel University London, and a BA in Economics from the Nation al University of Singapore.

Charis
Charis Liau

Executive Director & CEO

Charis has more than 20 years of banking and financial experience in the Asian markets with an international bank. Charis is instrumental in leading, driving and delivering on the Group’s business strategy and initiatives, overseeing the group’s funding, technology innovation and geographic expansion. 

She specialises in structured and asset finance, corporate lending and relationship management. Her understanding of how companies deliver on objectives and her strong knowledge of financial management has been invaluable to her numerous clients. Her banking experience is complemented with work on a range of fund-raising projects for SMEs prior to founding Minterest. 

 

Charis currently serves on the Alumni Advisory Board of Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, as well as on the Marketplace Lending sub-committee of the Singapore Fintech Association.

Charis holds a Fintech Certificate in Future Commerce from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy (First Class Honours) from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder from the CFA Institute. 

Ronnie
Ronnie Chia

Executive Director & COO

Ronnie has over 30 years’ experience specialising in corporate and structured finance at international banks, and finance and taxation matters at a conglomerate and an accounting firm.

His experience on “both sides” puts him in a unique position to understand both borrower and investor objectives. A deep understanding of, and broad experience in, financing requirements allows Ronnie to analyse and deliver on the decision making process through a balanced risk-reward approach.

He started and led numerous global businesses at an international bank where he was responsible for business performance and managing loan standards and portfolios. Ronnie graduated from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand with a Bachelors of Commerce Degree.

John Lim

Chairman

Mr John Lim is Co-Founder & Deputy Chairman of ARA Asset Management Limited (ARA or the Group). He is a Non-Executive Director of ARA Asset Management (Fortune) Limited, ARA Trust Management (Suntec) Limited, ARA Asset Management (Prosperity) Limited and Hui Xian Asset Management Limited. Mr Lim is also Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Services Pte. Ltd and LOGOS Group, and Chairman of Minterest Group Advisory Board.

Mr Lim is Chairman of the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association (APREA), the Consultative Committee to the Department of Real Estate, National University of Singapore, Straits Real Estate and Lim Hoon Foundation. He is a Patron of Jurong Spring Citizens’ Consultative Committee and the Securities Investors Association of Singapore (SIAS) and a Council Member of Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Prior to his role as Deputy Chairman of ARA, Mr Lim was Group CEO for 18 years, since co-founding it. Mr Lim has 40 years of experience in the real estate industry and has received many notable corporate awards. These include the PERE Global Awards 2016 Industry Figure of the Year: Asia, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of the Year Singapore 2012 and the Outstanding CEO of the Year 2011 at the Singapore Business Awards 2012. Mr Lim, along with the Board of Directors of ARA, is also a recipient of the prestigious Best Managed Board (Gold) Award at the Singapore Corporate Awards 2012. In 2017, he was conferred the Public Service Medal (PBM) by the President of Singapore in recognition of his contributions to the community. 

Mr Lim holds a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering, as well as a Diploma in Business Administration, each from the National University of Singapore. 

Michael Benz

Advisor

Michael is a Fintech advisor, Technology investor and Wealth Management consultant to leading banks in Asia and globally. He has over 20 years’ experience in leading global firms in Zurich, Singapore and Hong Kong. He is a specialist in Wealth Management business models, Investment and Risk Management with focus on application of innovative and transformative digital technologies. He also has direct experience in accelerated growth and transformation of wealth management businesses.

He is presently a Senior Advisor for Synpulse Management Consulting, a Swiss technology consulting firm focused on Wealth Management and Insurance Companies, as well as for various Fintech ventures in the areas of Wealth, Investment and Risk Management. Prior to this he was global and APAC CEO of various Wealth Management firms, Global Head of Standard Chartered Private Banking, APAC Head of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and APAC head of Products and Services in UBS.

Michael holds an MBA from St. Gallen Business School in Switzerland as well as a PhD in Financial Economics from University of St. Gallen.

Keng Teik Koay

Advisor

Keng Teik is currently Chief Financial Officer of BasisAI, a leading artificial intelligence company, funded by Temasek and Sequoia, where he is responsible for fund raising, finance operations, business development and investor relations. Prior to this, he was the CFO at JustCo, a leading co-working company in Asia with 40 co-working sites in 7 countries, where he helped raise c. US$250M from GIC, Frasers Property and Daito Trust, and spearheaded geographic expansion from 3 countries to 7 markets.

Prior to JustCo, Keng Teik held several key roles with Standard Chartered Bank where he spent 7 years. He was the Managing Director, Head of Southeast Asia for Financial Institutions Group (FIG) Investment Banking where he led FIG coverage, origination and execution of M&A and capital market transactions for financial institutions in South East Asia (2014 – Jan 2018) and led FIG coverage in China (2011 – 2014). Prior to that, Keng Teik held senior roles with Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group and Credit Suisse. He was also previously an important member of the founding team of Growasia.com; Asia’s first on-line investment bank (2000 – 2001).

Keng Teik has also acted as special advisor to other fintech companies including CXA and Mula X. Keng Teik holds an MBA dual concentration in Finance and Management from Columbia University, New York. He also has a Master of Science in Economics and Bachelor of Science in Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science, UK.
